What's something you wish you knew about Uni life/your major/
Something no one talks about that you experience(d) as a student?

Specifically as a uni student? As a student of professional qualifications? As an entry level employee? As someone who was interested in the subject? Specifically in accounting and finance or in any subject?

I could probably write an entire book on the subject, but I would drop a few of the key lessons here:

What you did in uni means squat outside of uni - it's more about experience than anything else

You don't need a degree to get into accounting or finance; in fact the degree might be more of a hindrance

It's better to check out the job before deciding on doing the degree related to the job

Whilst a lot of the material taught in accounting and finance do work in practice, a lot of it is theoretical

If you intend to go to uni and then get a job in accounting or finance, it's probably worth your while doing a degree in a different subject unless you want to pursue it as a career in academic research

Finance is more mathematical than accounting, which uses simple maths at roughly GCSE level (possibly stretching into AS)

If you want something mathematically challenging, then do either finance, economics, financial engineering, financial mathematics, mathematical economics, maths, actuarial science, or a combination thereof - you would actually use calculus and stats that you learnt in A Level Maths.

Getting your first job in accounting and finance can actually be harder than getting into university; network like crazy

Those who network a lot more during uni are able to secure jobs before those who scored 1st class grades - you should still be aiming for a 2:1 though

The exemptions that you get in accounting degrees mean very little to prospective employers, even if it ends up saving them money; they will care more about your experience and personality more than anything

Accounting and finance jobs tend to be very monotonous and require more people skills than technical skills

If you intend to get rich, you won't need a degree for that, let alone one in accounting or finance

If you can be more specific with your question, then I would be able to provide a more appropriate answer.
