Can a Ph. D. degree ever be revoked?

Can a Ph. D. degree ever be revoked? The question came up as a person with a Ph. D., who is presented as Doctor, has had substantial contact with the Law for criminal activities. Has it ever happened that a university would revoke a Ph. D. degree, even years after it was granted?
Quick bit of Googling reveals yes, but it’s very uncommon.

Yeah, it could be done in the event of plagiarism
Moved to Educational Debate.
All degrees may be revoked if the University feel that some act has been contrary to the University’s code of conduct.
It is rare, and a simple criminal conviction would not normally result in revocation. But a hint that some activity such as cheating or falsification of research would be enough. Honorary Degrees to people have been removed for politicians etc.
It is rare but possible

If you are found to have cheated then yeah they can or if your struck off maybe. But if it just because you have had trouble with the police I doubt it.
