Does it matter if I get a 2:1 instead of a 1:1 (computer science)

I'm a second year computer science student. I'm really trying my best but I am currently doing my exams and I keep messing them up, even though I studied very hard for them, because they're just so tough!

I was always aiming for a first, but I think I might have to settle for a 2:1, because that's my limit. Despite working my ass off I can't seem to get a first.

So yeah I wanted to ask, if I'm just looking to go and work in the industry (not academics like a Phd), do I really need a first? I have a couple of side projects already and have managed to secure an internship for the summer. Will these things help to cover up a 2:1?

I cannot comment on computer science itself, but a 2:1 is generally considered a good degree. Having a first would make yourself a more competitive applicant when applying to jobs, but you would be fine having a 2:1 especially alongside experience in the industry.

A 2i will be fine, it is still a strong degree (it's a I, there is no such classification as a I:I)
