Which uni is better Cardiff, Surrey, Lancaster or Royal Holloway for computer science

I just wanna how good these unis are and which uni has the better computer course and better job prospects for computer science.

It's good that you're looking into this. Here (Student Room) you will likely receive subjective opinions on the matter, so I would look at other sources also. I would start here: https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings/computer-science (Rankings for CS 2024). I would also have a look at 2023.

From my understanding, Surrey is quite good. My friend does Electrical Engineering there and his course includes computer science which he says is quite good there.

Hi !

Just thought I’d pop in and answer some questions . I’m a second year chemical engineering student at Lancaster Uni and in my opinion the teaching here at Lancaster is very supportive. We do receive quite a bit of guidance from the lectures alongside our independent studying . The staff are really easy to talk to and ask for advice , so I highly recommend using their office hours to get any academic questions out of the way . In engineering, we do have quite a bit of coding labs / workshops that I find to be very helpful . Workshops are usually carried out by your lecturer with the help of phd students who offer really good guidance as well . One thing that I really like about Lancaster is the campus , it is really beautiful and give a strong sense of community that will never let you feel out of place .The student life here is very fulfilling if you make the most out of it I.e joining sports and societies ,exploring the town and socialising with the student community. Hiya! I'm in my final year as a Computer Science student at Lancaster and thought I'd put in my two cents. "Better job prospects" vary more with the experience and skills the student has rather than the university itself I'd say. Try to do internships and personal projects throughout your university years and you'll find yourself a lot more employable.

As for the "better computer course", I can't account for the other universities so I'll talk about my experience at Lancaster! I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Computer Science modules usually have 1-2 hours of lectures and 1-2 hours of workshops/labs per module. That's the general rule for contact time. The labs are where you'll get the most help on coursework or lecture material as the lecturer and a few teaching assistants will be present. Outside of contact hours, each lecturer has office hours that you can go to or just send them an email/Teams message and they'll reply back. Of course, reply times depend on the person, others will reply back even at 2 am! There are lots of support channels within the department (even more outside) such as academic advisors, CS societies (CompSoc, LUHack, Women++@InfoLab etc.), and employment/optional experience lectures and talks.
