Southampton grades

Does anyone know if Southampton are likely to take you if you firm them and drop a grade?
My son needs AAB but looks more likely to get ABB.

If they've given you the offer of AAB and haven't mentioned anything else about what you've said then your son will only be accepted if he gets AAB, not ABB.
Firming a university is you accepting the offer they have given you. Usually some universities give different benefits if you firm them such as guaranteed accommodation on campus or sometimes a scholarship.
