Welcome to the TSR best (post-war) PM tournament!
This is Quarter Final 1

TSR is asking the question: Who is the best (post-war) UK Prime Minster?

We're holding a tournament of UK Prime Ministers and asking you to vote to determine which was the most significant in history. We are currently in the quarter-final stages of this tournament, and this is Quarter Final 1.

All the other groups are linked at the bottom of this post, and there's a hub thread here if you're interested in reading more.

The PMs in quarter final 1 are:
Clement Attlee 1945-1951

Labour. The earliest PM in this list, Attlee led a ground-breaking government who oversaw the post-war recovery period in the second half of the 1940s. His government's most celebrated achievement was the establishment of the NHS.

Winston Churchill 1940-1945, 1951-1955

He was the 41st Prime Minister and was the leader of the Conservative Party from 1940-1945. He led Britain during the Second World War and is viewed to be one of the greatest wartime leaders and UK PMs in history, despite his controversies.

Wow the general elections of 1945, 50 and 51 in poll form!

It's a strong tie that I probably need to think about!

For wont of the NHS, there would be some other healthcare system in place, almost certainly a better one along the lines of the rest of Europe.

For wont of Churchill, i.e. a weaker leader, there would be no Britain. Rishi Sunak or Gordon Brown would have given in to Hitler at the first possible opportunity.

Churchill, without a moment's hesitation.
The results are in:

:king1: Clement Attlee
:king2: Winston Churchill

This means that Clement Attlee will go to the next round and Winston Churchill has been eliminated.

Churchill was a greatest wartime leader but post war... not so much compared to others.
The other QF rounds are open for voting:
Quarter-final 3 (voting closes 12th July).
Quarter-final 4 (voting closes 12th July).
