Adding mine, after my rejection from Manchester. Not surprised, I did pretty badly in the interview.
Regardless, I had 4 rejections last year and I'm still over the moon from my Leeds offer.

Updated after being rejected by Nottingham/Lincoln, however they've offered to contact me if an offer becomes available. Just Bristol left, but I'm 98% sure I'm going to Leeds anyway

Hey all. Just wanted to update you with an offer from Hull York, and a rejection from both Nottingham and Leicester, since all of the decisions have finally been made. I'm definitely firming Leeds, so thank you to everyone for joining me in this both exciting and confusing journey for applying to medicine with foundation / gateway year courses! I hope someday other applicants will find this helpful.

excellent
congratulations 👏🏼

Congrats. I am applying for Med 2025 entry. What is the strategic way of applying universities. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Everything depends on your ucat score

Original post by MedMama
not sure if anyone else has replied already, but can you give some context?

do you prefer town/city/country

have you been to visit all, or any

can you speak to anyone there currently

do you have a preference for any of the 3 course structure/ teaching styles

have you looked into where are the clinical placements
eg., at Exeter you could be in Cornwall for placement

can you find any YouTubes to help with the above and to understand what accommodation options are in 1st year and beyond

well i have offers from all 3 and course wise, they are very similar and grades are same too. i have been to visit but have enjoyed all of the campuses making the decision harder haha!

aaah, well then as a momma, I’m bound to say choose the one closest to home 💚
Sorry, reposting here as no response on another thread. Would be grateful for any insight.

First, thanks for all the great advice on here. So valuable! Very proud of DC who has managed to getall 4 offers. Good luck to those still waiting! It’s certainly a marathon!

Decisions now… DC finding it really hard to choose between Nottingham and Liverpool (Same grade requirement). Both fabulous unis. Have spent time at both and loved them both. Could imagine themselves at either. DC very sporty and both unis/cities offer opportunities. Lots of great placements at both too going forward.

Re the courses after some advice. Notts offers the integrated BMedSci in 5 years as opposed to taking an intercalated degree at Liverpool (6 years). Any impact of the different degrees going forward ( financial implications aside), particularly when it comes to speciality applications? All new to me! Does anyone have experience of the BMedSci and how much more work/stress it puts on the student when trying to get everything done in a condensed period? Do they miss out on not having the extra year to get both degrees?

Any other feedback - pros/cons of either course/Uni would also be gratefully received.

Will be trying to speak to current students as well but thought with all the knowledge on here it would be worth asking for advice.

Thanks so much! 🙂

it’s a really good question, and there used to be a helper here who was very pro Nottingham not least for what he termed the ‘free degree’

of course, there are additional costs of doing a 6th year at Liverpool.
That has to be balanced v. having a wide range of choices as to which degree subject area to take if intercalating, and even a choice of medical school to take that degree in.

Would be interested to know what any qualified doctors on TSR think 💭 as the advantage of additional points that having a degree used to give for F1/2 applications no longer applies now that the process is randomised
( even the academic or special foundation pathway is selected by algorithms)

Nottingham and Southampton used to do integrated BMedScis. Southampton is now stopping it. Not sure fully on the reasons behind that but might be interesting to find out as that may give an indication of the pressures.

An integrated BMedSci isn't voluntary but intercalation is.

Which years do the respective unis do their final exams in, as the shift to the new MLA might place additional pressure if fourth year.

Also, because I like my holidays, I would check the terms/ holiday dates. Does either of them have a significantly different term structure, esp in clinical years?

I would also double check what the accommodation offer and guarantee and practical position is for those that are firming / insuring..

The age old answer is to flip a coin, and before you check the answer see what he was wishing for... it might give some insight. Or see how he feels about the answer. It doesn't mean do what the coin tells him, but see how he feels about what it tells him.

Thank you so much @MedMama for replying. Really helpful. Going forward, it will be interesting to see the impact of the changes on taking intercalated degrees.

Withdrawn from Bristol as taking too long just to find out if can make 4/4 😏. Sheffield is first choice anyway so firmed Sheffield today and insured Southampton. UEA declined.

Thanks for all the advice given at this forum. This is a wonderful community helping each other.

Best of luck to all waiting and hope you get an offer soon. Well done and best wishes to those who have offer. Here to the new beginning in Sept 2024.
