Anyone heard from 5 Pump Court? It seems unlikely that they will contact us on a bank holiday

I’ve not heard anything either. I thought it would be today given the bank holiday. If I hear anything at all I will update. Good luck!!

Does anyone know how much references factor into the decision-making process? I am thinking of asking chambers if I could substitute one of my referees, but am not sure if that’s possible or if that’s worth the trouble. Thank you!

I think it varies from set to set. Some don’t even ask for them. Others only ask once they’ve made a decision anyway. I doubt it would make much of a factor in decision making, and everyone’s references are only going to give positive feedback, but maybe some chambers do factor it. I would ask to substitute if you get to SRI, if you really want to.
I don’t know about anyone else but I feel really deflated this cycle. No FRIs whatsoever. I got to final rounds last year so i can’t figure out what went wrong, and i have no idea on how to even think about approaching next year 🥲

The more I do this the more I think so much of it is luck. There is literally no logical reason why that should happen if you got to final rounds before. I really feel for you. It’s terrifying how arbitrary it is.

Yes, this year has been brutal. I also have 1 application left. What area were you applying to? I applied mostly to Commercial and Commercial Chancery so I wondered if that has something to do with it.

I've been applying to criminal sets so seems rough across the board!
Is everyone still yet to hear from Colleton Chambers for the Criminal pupillage???
question for people who've applied in previous years:

anecdotally, what seem to be the odds of getting an offer from a final round? including reserve etc. I have two final rounds and am really hoping one materialises into an offer

Congratulations 🙌. I’ve heard nothing yet so guessing it’s bad news and out of the race. I hope you smash it!

Hi, has anyone heard from one pump court or Garden Court Crime specialist and or heard of any date they will let us know?
Anyone that got an FRI at Doughty Crime that would be open to share some insights as to their academic and experience background?
I wonder if it seems so brutal this year is down to the gateway website parameters. This year if you had the generic questions such as mini Pupillage’s etc you could not streamline for each set. This is because even if you had submitted an application any changes on subsequent applications also amended any earlier submitted or not yet submitted applications. As a result you were technically unable to streamline all answers to a particular set or demographic. For example for criminal sets I would take out some of the commercial mini’s I had done, similarly I might focus more on relevant experience’s that were aligned to a criminal barrister.

It seems ludicrous that changes occur to already submitted applications, particularly when at the same time the applicant cannot technically edit that same application intentionally by reviewing and resubmitting before the deadline.

I knew it copied over but I didn’t realise it changed applications already submitted?
