Are you trying to solve this? Can you tell us what methods you know / what you have tried, as per forum rules?

If you are trying to solve this, there are four approaches you can take:

1) Graphical solution (I don't recommend this). Sub in numbers and then draw the graph and then determine the points where it crosses the x axis.

2) Complete the square - Hard to say in words without telling you the answer.

3) Manipulation - Think of two numbers that multiply to make -12 (which I got from doing 3 x -4) and add to make +2. Then split the +2 to these two numbers and then factorise from there. This is the method I tend to employ for these sorts of questions.

4) Quadratic formula. Sub in the corresponding coefficients into the equation [-b±sqrt(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a and you will get your solutions for x.

There are two ways to solve that equation:

either you complete the square and converted it to the vertex form or you are using pq-formula. Your decision.
