Yeah it is really easy, when you first get to the lawns, think it was around the 24th September last year, there are a bunch of things going on in the lawns centre including representatives from the Bus Service. You just go to their stall and pay by card and they give you a slip so you can use the bus for free whilst your card it been made. Then after about a week you can pick up the card from the student union in uni.

everyone was doing this last year. it was extremely busy

you can get the bus cards on the eyms website too, but i dont think you can get it for next year yet.

I am in the Lawns this year and about 5 of my flat-mates have mini-fridges in their rooms. It says that you are not supposed to have them but the cleaners, who come to clean your room once a week, have no problems and only report damages etc. Also when people are coming in drunk at 3am and stealing your food from the kitchen then it seems like an even better idea to have a mini-fridge in your room. You can easily have a kettle in your room, i do myself, and there are 6 plugs in your room.

To be honest mate the lawns is the best place to live. If you buy a year-long bus pass which was £215 this year then you just jump on the bus in the lawns car park and it takes you right to uni. It is only a 15 minute journey, if that long, and the buses come every 20 mins. As for the food, Nicholson give preference to people with allergies as it is the only hall which is self-catered. The food at the lawns is actually very good despite what you might expect. There are usually 3 or 4 main foods e.g. your meats etc, then you move onto the next station and help yourself to veg and chips. You move to the salad bar next which has a wide choice then get your desert. There is another bar if you want a jacket potato or baguette instead of the main dishes. Honestly you would be hard pushed to find something you do not like.

Oh and for those wondering which hall to apply to at the lawns, Lambert, which i am in, is the closest to the bus stop and canteen  Plus it was refurbished last year so it looks the nicest as well. I urge you not to choose ferens, it may look the nicest from the outside but inside it is a prison.

If either of you have any other questions then feel free to message me

Is Lambert en-suite?

I just can't wait until we get the packs.
I'm definitely applying to the Lawns, but I'm more bothered about ensuite than self-catered now, because I found out you only get your evening meal catered in all of the halls, since they're all semi-catered. But I had no idea the people with allergies had preference, so it's a good thing I've gone off that idea then.
I'm doing Psychology, you?

Me either, I have my heart set on Hull now so just hoping and praying I get the grades (should be revising this second haha). The Lawns it is! I'm doing British Politics & Legislative Studies - such a good course. The only thing i'm worried about is nightlife, I love going out and i've heard there's not much there! :frown: Oh well, i'm sure everyone in The Lawns will start there own party WOO

Well, we get the emails on Wednesday, so one step closer! Haha, I should be revising too, but the internet is far too tempting. :') That actually sounds quite interesting. I don't know if I've mentioned it yet, but I'm doing Psychology.
I've actually heard the opposite - there's the Asylum obviously, plus quite a few good clubs in town. But I'm sure you're right - there's plenty of people in the Lawns to make a good party.
Hey, I posted here last year about having rooms going spare. Well, said rooms are coming free again; closer to the Uni than halls (just on the Hull side of the Cottingham border), cheaper than most on the Scheme. One room's a double; if there are any couples out there wanting to move in together, that could make four in the house so cut the rent and bills per person
Also, we have a balcony. Just sayin'...

Personally... I wish I'd been in halls. sure it's more expensive, and further away but, you meet a lot more people. I felt horrible my first semester because I hadn't met as many people as I'd liked.

I have a friend who is in her first year at hull, she said that houses look tempting but she highly recommends halls, purely for the socialising.

Living in a house is cheaper and usually much more covenient.

To be honest the best way to socialise is with Sports clubs or societies.

Looks like there are camps on both sides of the argument... From what I've gathered from friends at uni, the 'halls experience' is one that I don't really want to miss out on.

HI, I'm new on here, and I am also looking to do psychology at Hull. I spent a week at Hull on a summer school and loved it, I now don't want to go anywhere else. As for the Nightlife while I was there they were just refurbishing Asylum and It looked really good and as stated before there are a few good clubs to go to in town.

Finally, another psychologist! Yeah, I'm really keen on Hull too, I absolutely love it. I saw Asylum when I went for the open day, and it looked amazing.
Which accommodation are you looking at?

Heya, one quick question to everyone, after I pay the £150 deposit to the University to secure accommodation, if I get rejected on the grounds that I don't make the entry requirements, will I get the £150 back or is it non-refundable?

Thanks

I'm hopefully looking to get into Twaite hall, the place I stayed on the summer school. The rooms are a good size if you get a medium upwards and the grounds are beautiful. Also I'm drawn to Twaite as it is catered, I can cook but I don't think cooking is big on my list of priorities when I get there, making friends and just planting my feet on the floor is what I want to be doing  where are you looking to stay??

e it. I saw Asylum when I went for the open day, and it looked amazing.

Really?

In that case you'll probably consider Hull an amazing night out.

asylum, welly, fusion, sugar mill, piper, spiders the list goes on.
We're supposed to be receiving our emails between now and Friday - has anybody got theirs today?
If anyone has any question about the local area/nights out/travel let me know  I'm not going to Hull uni but I've lived here all my life
