and were asked to work out which one is the limiting one, and you worked out the number of moles(ignoring the 2 in fornt of x) of x and y to be : x=2 and y=1.5, would you then need to divide the x=2 by 2 because of the 2:1 rato in the equation or not, to find which one is limiting? I don't personally understand your question. Is X and Y supposed to be a reagent each? I presume so. If that is the case, as 1 is lower than 1.5, x would be the limiting reagent, I would guess. (Don't quote me on this, 'cos I'd hate to be blamed for being wrong. )
The limiting reagent is the reagent with the least amount of moles. It's therefore the one that limits the amount of product that can be produced.
