Thought doctors were supposed to discourage people from getting engaged in such activities.........

I'm not saying whether it's a sensible thing to do, just stating that it will happen. :p:

I sympathise with young non-drinkers heading off to uni who are worried that they'll miss out if they don't drink, but there's occasionally a less-nice note of judgement towards people who do drink. Going on a Freshers' week pub crawl and having a few drinks is not the worst thing in the world to do, and dismissing potential friends on the basis that they might enjoy this is just as foolish as a drinker excluding a non-drinker.

Well this is encouraging.

Providing the info for how to drink more cheaply can even classify as 'encouragement' ...........

But, yeah, I agree.
However, fresher's week pub crawl is not the only or opportunity to drink or avoiding it will save you from being among drinkers anyway.
There're lots of fun events like bops, formals /swaps, etc. which involves drinking, you really should go and enjoy, whether you drink or not.

Gosh.....
Are you awake already or haven't gone to bed yet??

Well, I was wondering about that too....
Are they finding difficult to count Mauritius students??? It looks a bit like wild life conservationists's count of endangered species, like "the last time we saw, we think we observed up to 4 Mauritians but not too sure ...."

But in serious note......
I think someone (CAT??) said they don't publish exact number of students from a country which has very few students at Cambridge to protect their privacy because it'd be too easy to identify them if they do .....or something in that line..........I think..................
(The number and length of dotted lines shows how vague my memory is....)

Amplifying what @vincrows said, this is exactly what this is for. Over the past few years there's been quite a bit of thinking about what it means to apply the provisions of the data protection act, especially in an era when there is so much data freely (or nearly freely) available on individuals.

The story is long and complicated, but cutting to the chase, there are a bunch of administrative guidelines concerning the form of data that is released into the public domain. Particular regard is paid to whether individuals can be identified from a particular data release, or from a particular data release in combination with other data releases.

Typical signs that you will see of these principles is that small categories are made "fuzzy", either by not identifying how many individuals are in them or by making the definition of the categories vague.

One of the guidelines that might amuse you from a statistical point of view is that you should not publish the values of maxima, minima or quantiles of quantities that might identify an individual. Makes doing descriptive statistics in an academic paper quite a challenge!

If they (read: he) can find a telephone box in Cambridge.......

Just checked......
The population and size of Cambridge (city) are slightly smaller than those of Port Louis.
Hope this statistic will make @Zacken feel at home when he arrives here.

Btw, Cambridgeshire is more than 1 1/2 times bigger than Mauritius, so try not to get lost.

There's still one or 2. Might even be listed buildings.

Here's the current MauritiusSoc waiting for their new member to arrive.

Edit: serendipity strikes. Turns out the iconic design was by the same architect who created the University Library building.

Actually, you're right.

I must've walked past it hundreds of times, but never registered.....
Maybe Mauritius Soc was having their annual conference inside and was closed............

Yep, I knew about the architect. He also designed St.Pancras Station and Albert Memorial and other iconic buildings across UK. Many of his buildings are beautiful English Gothic. UL is definitely not......

Are pub crawls (freshers event) only for people who actually drink?
*

Definitely not, you can definitely go to the pubs and just have soft drinks if you want to socialise but prefer not to drink. I know that some colleges organize parallel non-drinking events during Freshers Week, if you're concerned about it.*

For health reasons, I don't like to drink a lot at a time, and there are periods when I don't drink at all. People are really chill about it, don't worry!*
