Any Ideas???

I've firmed to start at St Andrews in September...and have just found out I miss the deadline for scholarships/bursarys as a new undergrad. After phoning the uni and establishing I didn't get sent either email concerning finance...I was told there was still nothing they could do :frown:
After paying for accomm, I'm only going to have £900 to live off of for the whole year - mind you, that is catered accomm so food wont be an issue
I just wondered if there was anything i could do?! besides begging. £900 doesnt sound all that appealing and my mum cant afford to give me any money to go with. Obviously im going to try to get a full time job over summer, but due to where i live this is looking doubtful :/
does the uni offer any other financial support?! Thanks! x

Couldn't you work part time? With St Andrews being such a touristy town there's always bar/shop/hotel work from what I've read.

Look for other grants and scholarships here: http://www.studentcashpoint.com/Default.aspx the deadline for many is the 30th April so you'll have to be quick.
With a student bank account you can get up to £1000 interest-free for your first year depending on which bank you choose...
You can get paid for taking part in Psychology tests here: http://st-andrews.sona-systems.com/main.asp (around £5 a go, not a lot, but it's something)
Also you can visit the careers centre and get the occasional admin job or work in the student union for example, if you don't want a full on bar/restaurant job.

I'm starting at St Andrews this year too, and will have no support from parents, so I've spent a lot of time looking into ways of making some pennies.

There's also many other student sites which offer discounts and money for taking part in surveys and such...

£900 for the academic year is do-able without too much self-restriction if you're in catered halls.

I would encourage you to work over the summers and maybe in first year, but don't rely on working in the term for your last year or so - it depends how many hours of teaching you have and what studying you could do in different jobs, but I found that the term-time was too intense to balance with a job.

thanks all of you!!!
as for working, im going to do my best to get a job over summer and at uni, its just that from experience in getting a job around where i live before, it took a few months just as theres so much competition; and i didnt know the chances in st andrews as it is so small

but thanks loads!!!! x
