Literature PS help?

Hello all!

I plan on studying english lit at university ( as well as creative writing but that part doesn't matter for now) and am currently writing my personal statement.

I have written the first couple of sections, and am now up to the point where I am going to discuss a few authors, works I like etc. I have stated I enjoy poetry and prose the best and mentioned a couple of my favourite authors but am now wondering where to go with regards to critically talking about what I enjoy about these authors and their works.

I've heard a more critical view of a book or writers style is the best way to make an English literature statement stand out.

So I'm just wondering what techniques I should use? Should I focus on the narratives the writers use, or the language, structure etc? Language used itself?
