Economics with a foreign language

Hello, I am applying to study economics (a bit late to be asking i suppose) but i wish to study it wish a language. what language would be ideal to go with economics. to let you understand i am taking higher french this year and am enjoying it, i am considering this with economics but it is only done at a few unis, Glasgow probably being the best in scotland. also would it be difficult to pick up another language, would a prior knowledge of the language be required, german for example. finally, would it be recommended to take a language with economics or is economics best studied on its own.
thanks for any advice.
