What to do after university

What does one do after they graduate?

I've heard of masters and phd, but not sure what these are.

I know I could easily google this stuff, I have done, but I think i'll understand it more and find it way easier to ask actual people this as opposed to a search engine.

Thanks
Well I guess there is two options that people can take after they graduate. Get a job or go into postgraduate education.

A master's degree and a PhD are two types of postgrad degree. The former is only a year and the latter is three years. You normally have to complete a master's in order to study for a PhD (there are exceptions, however, such as in the Sciences, where it's easier to go straight from a BSc to a PhD)

You could also consider graduate job schemes and temporary work while looking for jobs in the area you'd like to work in. Internships are another possibility.

I'm thinking now (and I know its ages in advance) that I might do a masters in conservation surveying techniques or something. I never really though about it until it was mentioned to me by the course leader at an open day that I could do that. I was always thought yeah I'd go out and get a job but this route sounds interesting, allows me to gain more experience and specialise even more.
