Biomedical Science - Work Experience?

I'm interested in doing BioMed, and was wondering is it necessary for me to obtain some work experience, and where would I start in getting work experience for BioMed?

Sorry if this has been posted before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
not really necessary, any work experience is good enough really even if you have been working n tesco for the pass 6 years

as its hard trying to get into a lab to get some, most don't have the time or money

I am just finishing my Biomed course at Sheffield, and didn't have any work experience. I do know a few friends who got on the course with a lower grades than me (possibly because they had additional work experience).

Tips ummm if you want to study Medicine don't put that down because there are LOADS of medics applying and they prefer students who actually want to do other science subjects e.g. bio, chem, phys etc.
Get a good reference and just make sure you hand it in early!
I did a Biochemistry project at Imperial.

Phone your local hospital. Most have voluntary services departments. I got a week's work experience for a £15 admin fee (this was 2005, I know for a fact it's still done but the admin fee may be out of date!).

It's not necessary but it's what pushed me over 150 other applicants when it came to getting a job (at the same hospital ;p) and it makes sense to check you like what you're applying for right?

Hahaha, i pretty much just typed out all that then realised you had already posted it. I think its a sign that I should get to back to my haematology prac assignments rather than browsing the internets.

I have become known at my placement hospital for the work experience I have done there in the past, I think it hugely contributed to being offered to do my placement there in September. I wonder if I will end up working there

But then again, once im trained up to specialist level I want to get as far away from this broken country as possible!
