The Jan papers are usually harder and people get better marks before they've matured, revised more and have A2 on their side. So hopefully this year's will be low. They can't call it the June paper though - middle May gah!!

and god! how anyone could get full marks on that! :s-smilie: x

i did rivers, population, deserts and health  so we match on rivers and population  what did you think of rivers and population?
What did people who did health put for the question about contrasting healthcare approaches?

I compared Cuba's socialised system with USA's pluralistic system, saying that Cuba's is state-run with physicians being employed by the state whereas USA's is largely private with physicians as solo entrepreneurs but also as part of larger associations. Also talked about Cuba's system being efficient (maintained funding during the USSR break-up which paid off) whereas USA's system is sometimes criticised for its lack of safety and quality despite the high costs (but has the advantage of the taxpayer not having to contribute to each individual's health insurance).

Did I answer that completely wrong or would I get some marks?

What about Obesity??

There is some debate whether obesity is a disease, but if you then talked about obesity developing into other health problems like diabetes which is a disease then yes it is a plausible answer.

What definition of periglacial would be accepted?
Would this be suitable...

'An environment wich is not glaciated or covered in ice but has a constant cold temperature with frozen groung called permafrost'

Also what is the maxium amount one can get on an essay without the use of any case studies?
Thanks.

Wow was the paper just yesterday? It feels like a lifetime ago already haha  Yeah I did. And yes it was one of the past papers from maybe 2009/2010? Yeah Geography grade boundaries are always really low because it's so difficult to learn everything and apply it. I would :adore: a person who manages full raw marks on a Geography AS/A Level paper. Don't know if it's possible :p:

My geography class are ridiculously, annoyingly good. I'm the slacker, and I got 106/120 when we did the Jan 2011 as our mock, there were three kids that got 118 and one who got 120.

We can :adore: them.

That said, this paper felt much better than the Jan one, fingers crossed that I can manage that feat...

I can't really remember them now :p: The population 15 marker was probably my worst question though since I just couldn't remember pros and cons. What about you?

Are you serious?!? First of all, I'm screwed :eek3: Second of all :adore: :adore: :adore:

Can I ask how you managed to learn it all? Do your teachers teach you in a particular way and do you all just know how to answer certain types of questions?

At least one of us knew it then haha!
I hope so!! I'm predicted an A so I'm hoping that's what I'll get but unsure since it didn't go so well :/ I was gagging for a question on Malthus/Boserup for population - absolutely gutted it didn't come up. I knew that so well! I'd be really disappointed if I didn't get an A since I've been working at that level all year and if I suddenly screw up now...well :frown: How about you?

im sure you answered it fine  and i bloody needed to! i know you didnt do health (i dont think!?) but i think you must of heard about the last question on health- well i wrote about AIDS the totally wrong thing! so thats 15 marks down the drain :frown:
and omg!! me to! i totally revised that loads! and oh really? you must be a good geographer then. ive been getting like C\B throughout the year.
and well..... i feel i totally screwed up on the whole paper tbh! :s-smilie: so i think im gonna get a D :frown: im praying for a C, but i find the skills paper hard so it'll probs bring my grade down even further!

The paper is out of 120 in raw marks, so your 106/120 would equate to 140/140 in UMS marks. So do you mean that you scored 106/140 UMS marks and your classmates scored 118/140 and 120/140?

no, the teacher wouldn't have converted raw marks to UMS marks for a mock

If everyone writes to OCR to complain about those articles it will hopefully make them lower the grade boundaries!!!!

Ah sorry, I thought it was the result of the real paper, not a mock sitting.

I don't know, I'm not sure how other teachers teach, but I have to say our geography department have absolutely incredible teachers anyway. It's all normal teaching until the end of the subtopic, then we get a week of lessons giving the really formulaic "jumping through hoops" sessions.

For these exams, there are actually 4 brilliant booklets they gave us titled "How to answer [Glaciers/Rivers/Popn./Health] Perfectly", which says a lot and was invaluable for how to structure each question and get it all done easily within the half hour - there are certain buzzwords which get you quick marks. Plus, there's peer pressure to do really well in my school, so before we went into the exam, I don't think there was a single area I couldn't write a 15 marker about.

No, I mean raw marks. I don't know how the UMS works at all for Geography :s-smilie:

even if it doesnt ask for case studies to get full marks you need some. so dont get happy for your full ums stuff

1. You don't need full marks to get full UMS
2. I included case studies in most answers
