Business & Management Society©

After some failure attempts by some people to make a Business & Management Society, I hope I can succeed in making this popular, reguarly updated and active.

The Aims for this soceity: To provide a network of infomation for people considering studying and starting a career in business/management. To construct an overall helpful society that is knowledgable aswell as friendly is an ideal goal. So I hope we can fulfil that.

Members Profiles:

Multiplexed - Currently studying A-Levels (Economics, Business & Law) at Huddersfield. Deciding which University to study Management, probably it's going to be Leeds University or Nottingham. I chose to pick a business related course because its just that good, lol. Plus, the international scope is brilliant.

Paddy357 - Currently studying A-Levels (Psychology, Latin and Spanish) in Essex. Deciding which University to study Business+Language, although I'm fairly certain my 1st choice will be Warwick, followed by either Nottingham, Birmingham or Edinburgh. Hope to work abroad with my degree someday, maybe in the states.

Alcemeny - Currently attending BSc Business and Management at Aston University. Studied A level ICT (A), Business Studies (A) and Geography (B). Have a keen interest in the field of Organizational Behaviour and particularly leadership.

One-Prophecy - Studying Business, Accounting and English Lit at Pontefract NEW College. Hopefully, going to Manchester for Uni for the International Management course, with a course at Aston Uni being my insurance.

Falguni - In 3rd Year at KCL doing BSc Business Management.
Just accepted an offer for a graduate job next year in PwC Audit.
Is hoping to work towards an ACA, then maybe I might consider moving into a more Advisory/Strategic role like Management Consulting. Or may decide to stay in Audit or go into industry.

*puts up hand* Actually I have!
I'm applying for International Business and I was thinking about maybe switching to a different degree when I get to uni, specifically Industrial Economics. I've always been interested in Economics, but couldn't really apply for straight economics as 6/10 unis want you to have A Level Maths. However Industrial Economics is economics but from a business perspective, so basically it's Business Economics. I was just wondering if I should switch to that instead?
It would only really work in Warwick and Nottingham, the grades each one wants for this new course are the same as what they've requested of me. Also I could still keep up my Spanish by doing an Erasmus exchange in the 3rd year.
So what do you think?

Well, have you taken into account the external modules available at Warwick? With Economics in Business one of them, have you considered it?

--------------

Or you could just stick with the International Business, and specify most of your elective modules on Economic related modules?

Yeah I guess, that could work, but at the end of the day it comes down to whether I want to graduate with an International Business degree or an Industrial Economics degree, and that's what I'm not sure about.

Well where do you wish to work in your career? The degree could go to the benifit of it.

I don't know, either London or abroad (possibly the states), hence languages important for me. Would like to work in consultancy eventually, maybe work for the diplomatic corps for a few years first. I'm not entirely sure where I'm headed, but I can't shake the feeling that an Economics degree would better suit me.

For consultancy, of which is where I'm heading off too. International Business would be best suited to you. As if you where to work as a consultant, you would specialise in all about the management stratagies, business organisation etc. Coincidence that these are modules in International Business? Also, one of the most "looked for" graduates in the USA, is someone Business related (Business Admin, International Management/Business etc.) Go for Int. Business

I guess. I heard tho that consultancy was an area in which it would be better to have a more 'traditional/academic' degree. Also that is what Industrial Economics is all about, it's Economics minus all the intricate theory that I'm not interested in plus how it affects businesses. See, very relevant
Meh, I have to get the grades first! I'll see when I get to uni I suppose, might ask the careers counsilor when I get back to school as well.
Thanks for the advice

Medics1 So, what are you applying for?
Me: Business Management
Medic1: Ah right.
Medic 2: Basically, a fancy shopkeeper degree.

Oh well, we have better salary prospects, a better time at uni and don't literally have peoples' lives hanging on our every move.
