What type of image shows the patterns atoms form in solids?

I dislike ambiguous questions :/

Do you mean how do we tell what type of solid is formed by atoms? Well, the most common way is by shining xrays through the crystal from which we get an xray diffraction pattern. By repeating this in different orientations and studying what type of shape can create these patterns we can tell what the arrangement of the individual atoms inside are.
