Tips for watching the TV in Spanish

I'm in Spain just now and finding it difficult to understand TV programmes. Obviously it doesn't help that I can pause or rewind the programme.

Any tips?
Don't.

Go outside and have fun!
switch the subtitles on? I find reading as I'm listening helps when it comes to watching films in a foreign language

Start watching a soap. You'll get drawn into the story, so will be more likely to watch it regularly, and also you'll get used to the actors' voices, so you'll start to understand more.

I've also found that dubbed foreign programmes tend to be easier to understand, as they tend to speak slower and less idiomatically. So you might find that easier at first (although definitely keep trying to understand actual Spanish programmes).
