Do any institutions near you offer IELT prep courses? They tend to be exspensive, but I've found the one I did extremely helpful.
Especially for the oral exam as we simulated the situation. Other than that there are enough websites that give IELTS tips and even IELTS prep books.

I spent 3 weeks to prepare for Ielts without any courses or teachers, only self study and got overall band score 7.0 . It is not so difficult, but you have to understand a structure of the exam and have good level of English.

I agree with vazee, the ielts exam isn't that difficult in itself but you have to go in with a certain strategy. If you go in blindly, you're screwed. But if you're willing to put in a bit of money and effort (though not much I can assure you), take a look at the ielts-blog.com. They offer a book on key strategies. It has a chapter on each part of the test and quick overviews to take with you on the day itself. Seriously, I read through it maybe once or twice and did a couple of practice tests according to the tips. Got an 8.5 overall with 2 9.0's. It's all about strategies and practice so if you have time, you'll manage a 7.0 easily enough.

I would generally agree with the posts in this thread. Passing any exam would require that you practice specifically for that exam. So, find past test papers online that will help. This wil NOT improve your level of English though. To do so, the quickest and most effective way is to attend a specialist IELTS class with a very experienced teacher.

The other catch is that you can't rush it. It takes time. How much time? That depends on your current language level, what band you are aiming for and how good a student you are prepared to be. But I will say that the most important factors in your learning a language are consistency and open mindedness to the language and your lesons.

Best of luck

It all depends on your level of English - you can only study for it to some degree, fluency in a language comes slowly by using it. People with a comparatively low level of English may study hard and still get a rather disappointing result, others who have more experience do hardly anything and get good results. I spent a couple of hours on a mock test and got 8.0.

If by 'most proficient language' you mean English is somehow your native language, you should be fine. Just make sure to do mock papers and understand the general structure.
