Pharmacy bands

Hi, i am thinking of doing pharmacy at uni and wanted to know about the bands in detail. How can you go from a band 6 to a band 9? Can someone please explain?

this may be slightly faectious, by applying for and getting a series of progressively higher banded roles as you develop through your career

it is relevant ot note that Band 9 roles only existin the largest of trusts, as Band 8d was felt initally to cover the 'size' and 'weight' of any none Director ( and therefore on the VSM scales) role

This is not an easy thing to answer tbh as there are quite a few different pay structures in place in pharmacies in the UK.

So, Community pharmacy doesnt have a pay banding structure. You are paid band 5 for your foundation training but once your work in community, the pay structure is not NHS agenda for change. Pay will vary from location to location but it pays the equivalent of band 6-8b (some areas, the pay is equivalent of 8c or 8d if you locum but generally pay is similar to band 6/7 for non-locums and 8a.8b equivalent for locums).

Hospital pharmacy once you do foundation training you usually start at band 6, however 7 hospitals will let you start at band 7. Uusally you spend a few years in each role before progressing a pay pay grade. also yo uare enrolled on a clinical diploma course and once you have a prescribing qualification, you can apply for 8a roles.

General practice usually starts at band 7 for pharmacists post-registration, however pay progression depends on the PCN (group of GP practices). like hospital, presciribing course opens up 8a roles. GP practices it is worth bearing in mind are actually private businesses which provide NHS services (simular to gp practices, dental practices and optometrists), thus whilst they give NHS pension and banding, the pay generally tends to be less than NHS agenda for change in a few areas.

Industry has very weird pay scales.

government jobs have their own pay structure but its similar to NHS afc.
