Its clear that Arsene wenger is planning to change our style of play to a more direct one. Giroud, carzola and podoloski are not the most technical players but they make a lot of runs and their style of play is more direct. Maybe this will bring us back to our winning ways like the invincibles but I'm worried about the fact that we still don't have a player who can retain the ball and supply killer passes from the attacking midfield position a la Fabregas.

im pretty sure he's quite skilled, not in a flashy way but good technique etc. correct me if i'm wrong though

WHAT NO?! It was always my dream to start the new Arsenal thread. Why do you think I became a moderator? :moon:

Anyway, subbed. Lack of football is making me cranky though.

No mod shall ever start an Arsenal thread :smug:

I remember a commentator saying that people score from corners against arsenal nowadays but back in the days they used to be scared because ten seconds later it'll be in the back of their net. I didn't really watch arsenal before 08 so don't know too much about how they used to play.

Would you rather watch your team play possession football or to play counter attacking football?

Counter attacking by far. Possession football is very pretty but in terms of getting the pulses going it has to be playing on the break. Thing about Arsenal 2000-2004 is that they were capable of playing great possesional football when they needed to slow a game down but they had that extra gear with Henry/Ljungberg/Pires capable of punishing any mistake from the opposition. It was beautiful and terrifying at the same time...:moon:

You need CMs with a hell of a lot of endurance though. Vieira/Gilberto never stopped moving and thats what kept the team ticking. What made it even more impressive is that they did it on a tiny Highbury pitch. In many ways I think Highbury gave us a big advantage over the opposition because we were used to playing on such a small pitch and were able to use the space so intelligently. Didn't hurt that Dennis Bergkamp was 3 passes ahead of the opposition mentally either

I don't think we conceded many goals at all from set pieces this time round. We were just so poor through the middle when defending (the massive injuries to our full backs didn't help).

I'd prefer a mixture of both. Neither are exclusive to each other and the Invincible side was a great example of it.

Shrek doing his bit. Nauseating.

We can't sell RVP to United, not for any price. We are a joke if we do.

Agreed, the more time I get to think about the possibility of us selling a player, more importantly our captain and best player to united, the more ridiculous and embarrassing it gets for the board.

I have faith in them, they aren't that naive surely.
