Hello, i have to explain the phrase "Classes without ethnicity are blind; ethnicity without class is empty"

actually i want certain examples and a different explanation of this phrase. i thought that it is based on the theory of E. Gellner that argues that the nationalism comes in order to unify all the people irrespective of the social status but based on their culture.

help is more that welcome..
