Why do some soldiers rape?

Why do some soldiers rape females civilians during peace operations or war conflicts? During United Nations Peacekeeping in Haiti and many African countries a lot of civilians accused soldiers of raped and sexual abuse.

Many soldiers (& men) though not all, usually from African, Middle Eastern, Slavic and Asian countries culturally treat women as second class citizens even without war conflict. They view women as useful object without rights only for sex and for having children. They have no issue about using women as property to fulfil their need for sex.

So when opportunities arise poorly disciplined soldiers will just look to have sex with anything with a pulse and it doesn't matter to them about anything else as long as their need is met. Rape is where there is no consent. Rape is assault and an overt display of power.
imo it's an expression of power over people you've often been trained to see as disposable and lesser. On a wider scale it acts as a terror attack and it muddies the ethnic waters in families and communities causing a lot of lasting tension that a simpler death wouldn't. (In much the same way as attacks such as white phosphorus & AP mines, which rather than taking out 1 solider, effectively tie up an entire medial team and place long term and horrifying care responsibilities on the wider country)
It has been used as a weapon since the start of human conflict - not only against women but also civilian men and boys - however it is as you’d expect always carried out by men of the offensive nation / religion’s forces. It, like rape in the real world is a way for primitive men to show their power over a nation, it is a psychological and biological weapon, often leaving people with severe PTSD and STD’s. In all democratic nations today it is a war crime, in some punishable with execution. As it should be, however sadly as we’ve seen in Ukraine, unruly young Russian troops are still using it as a weapon despite orders to the contrary from high command.

Yes and these idiots don't have fear of contracting diseases from victims. Assuming they survive, they may end up with some incurable disease like SIDA. Hatred reaches the point of risking one's life at that point? so stupid.

It’s exactly the same reason as why rape happens anywhere at all, really. Some people are just w@nkers with scrotums for a brain.

Naturally, rape an easy thing to weaponise and it’s sickening.

Its got nothing to do with culture or race. Belibe me American white soldiers rape just as much as any other.
There are some uncomfortable generalisations in this thread already. Rape and sexual abuse by soldiers is not limited to any country or ethnicity. It's universal and unfortunately too common.

The only observation that I'd offer by way of explanation is that we train soldiers to dissociate and dehumanise other human beings to the point that they will take away their lives without question or hesitation. Can we really be surprised when those indoctrinated attitudes lead to other unintended acts of violence and aggression?
Same reason people who are not soldiers rape

Rape is part of war strategy. By humiliation and victimisation of enemy's women population soldiers (rapists) are making statement of superiority
