How does the Uni course really work and differ from college?

So at 6th form we have a teacher, we have a timetable and we get registered at every lesson and have hw etc.
Is Uni anything like this, obviously they dont baby sit you like 6th form do, but how do you know what lectures you have to go too, and how does the uni keep track of your progress. Do you have a teacher that you see regularly like you do in school and can go to if you need help or not?
University courses basically have lecturers/professors. You get a timetable of when you attend your lectures and seminars etc. You don't get registered because its your own choice if you want to show up to the lecture or seminar or not. Its extremely independent in comparison to sixth form or college but you do get a personal tutor where you can go to for advice and help. Generally the whole atmosphere is extremely academic yet chilled. Unlike college you'll rarely get that one d*ck that messes about in class and stuff. If anybody tries to do that at Uni they will probably get kicked off the course.
You still get a timetable, but no-one checks if you attend things. Your lecturs in first year will often be huge, and your lecturer won't know the students personally.

You'll have a personal tutor, but you have to go to them if you need help, they won't "keep track" of you.

You'll get assignments. Most will count towards your final grade. No-one will remind you to hand them in on time, and no-one will chase you up if you're late, you just fail. If you need help, then you make an appointment with the lecturer who set the assignment via email. You'll get the chance to collect your work once it's marked and get written feedback. Again, you can make an appointment to discuss this with whoever marked your work if there's something you're unsure of.

Basically, unlike at 6thform, you're considered mature enough to organise your own time, and seek out any help you need. There is help there, but you have to ask for it. No-one will be cross with you for not understanding, but they will be unsympathetic if you fail unless you have genuine extenuating circumstances.
