I found it really easy to make friends to be honest with you, everyone is in the same boat and looking to meet new people, so you won't be left out
. I still live at home so I thought I'd maybe struggle with meeting people, but I've ended up with more friends than my friends in halls because they tend to stick with their flatmates outside uni hours whereas I have a few various groups of friends. You definitely won't be left out for being foreign either, as long as you are willing to make an effort with new people, people will be willing to make an effort with you
.
I'm not sure if someone has set one up or not, but we had a facebook group for the aberdeen freshers last year, I met all of my closest friends on there because we were all doing the same course. We set up a little group chat in march-time and have been close friends ever since!
A freshers facebook page is a good way to meet people on your course and in your flat, if you'll be living in halls.
I'm actually going to be a student4student mentor next year though, which is where the 2nd/3rd/4th year students get grouped up with some first years so that they at least have someone near by and it's someone who has experienced the joys of first year. If you're concerned about meeting people, then I'd definitely get an s4s mentor - they're particularly helpful if they happen to have done the same course as you haha!
