The Student Room Group

London - What is Uni Life?

I have a fair share of cousins who have gone to uni outside of London and they seem to be partying every other night and drinking loads and spending quite a bit going out. For those people who study in London who aren't rich, What is student life like? Booze and admission to places is like two times the price in London. Plus most people would have to get a part time job to survive.
Is it as easy in London yo make friends and build relationships?

The most important things to think about being a student in London are -

a) London is a big place and students live all over the place - some in suburbs an hour away from campus. This can lead to a disjointed sense of community and often a sense of loneliness.

b) Its expensive. Not just 2nd & 3rd year private renting but transport, food and entertainment.

You can often get a better 'student experience' in a smaller city like Manchester, Leeds or Bristol where is cheaper and students live closer together.

I swear private renting in the 2nd and 3rd year would be A LOT cheaper than halls in the first year?
