C1 arithmetic sequences Help!

Hi everyone,
I was just wodering if asked to proove a formula for ARITHMETIC sequences will it only be the Sn=n/2(2a+(n-1)d) or are you ever asked to prove Un=a+(n-1)d?
Thank you =)
Sn is the arithmetic series (sum of terms in an arithmetic sequence)
Un is a recurrence relation of the arithmetic sequence involved

C1 in Edexcel
(I think you mean geometric sequences, they're in Edexcel C2)
