Technology: hidden evil?

Has anyone seen this piece in The Guardian regarding Boston University's study?

According to new research using a smartphone or iPad to pacify a toddler may impede their ability to learn self control.

The research also says heavy use of mobile devices at a very young age is having an untold impact on children’s development and behaviour.

What do you think? Is technology affecting our society?

I agree that people shouldn't let technology raise their children.

Everything in moderation though. A bit of technology to pacify the kids and give the parents respite going to hurt the kid too much as long as the children are engaged in other ways at other times.

But as usual, some peolle think its all or nothing.

Anybody remember the parent who left her child in front of teletubbies most of the time and damaged their development to the stages where they couldn't talk properly several years back.

What do you think? Is technology affecting our society?

Well it's not a massive surprise. Of course technology is affecting our society, excessive technology use affects your brain in a similar way to how other addictions affect you. Many people these days couldn't cope without the internet or their smartphones. Technology has disadvantages as well as advantages (specifically consumer technology) and I don't understand why admitting this seems to be a taboo these days. I do not like the way consumer technology is going at all.
