The question is leading you to build a differential equation. The way you ask 'what happens to' suggests you don't get where this is going.

Have you come across the idea of building the volume of a sphere from thin onion-like shells? If you haven't, look at the formula for the surface area of a sphere and its volume and maybe a connection will appear .... where does that come from? (oh, and it works for the perimeter and area of a circle too!)

Your question uses a more complicated version of this idea.
