David cameron accused of fixing immigration figures & covering up 1 million arrivals

David Cameron is accused of fixing the immigration figures & covering up at least 1 million extra immigrants in the UK, shown by the fact far more immigrants are claiming national insurance numbers than are officially said to have arrived, 2 million EU immigrants have been given national insurance numbers but only 760,000 have been said to have arrived.

David Cameron has refused to release the real figures

This has been doing the rounds for about a week. Cameron is stating releasing the numbers would affect the on-going EU negotiation, however, as we all know, that's merely a euphemism for 'it will play right into his opponent's hands.'

If these figures are released pre-referendum I would expect it would swing the entire referendum in the direction of 'leave.'
Knowing Dave I'd believe it. Sad really
It's all Jeremy Corbyn's fault really.
Top lad he knows what needs to be done. Let them all flood in!!

These accusations assume that all EU migrants are allocated NI numbers at the point they arrive in the country, which isn't necessarily true. You don't need to pay NI or even have a number if you already pay NI in another country. Therefore some EU migrants might have been living in the UK for several years but have only just got a NI number in the last four.

Some of these numbers may have been issued to EU migrants that had arrived over four years ago but had only just turned 16. Would they classify as an ''EU migrant'' to HMRC? It would have been nice for the Telegraph to source these figures.

And no, David Cameron himself hasn't ''refused'' to release anything nor has HMRC. As the article quotes:

HMRC was forced into a climbdown and late on Thursday insisted that it was "wrong" to suggest the information was withheld because of the EU renegotiation.

A spokesman said: “It was wrong to suggest information was withheld because of the EU renegotiation.

Not all the information that has been requested is held by HMRC. The information that is held is not in a collated, publishable form.

“HMRC will release that data when it is properly collated early in the New Year.”

If there is room for the immigration figures to be inaccurate is there not also room for HMRC's figures to be inaccurate?
