Do you think getting a perm is okay for men?

Well, I'm 15 currently and always considered getting curly hair. I just think it looks fresh and original compared to quiff's etc. But apparently, getting a perm has side effects such as hair loss and damage.

And plus, a perm is permanent and my parents don't agree with me, and it may not look suitable for school or getting a job.

Any advice??
