Lampeter, random Q's

Hi, I have a few questions that hopefully some present students can answer if able?

1) what is the social aspect like just in general night and day.
2) very stupid question, but is there a student bar or anything? I'm currently at Ambleside and there is no real Union presence hence why i ask.
3) Is there a freshers group chat kicking about on FB or anything?
4) What kind of clubs are kicking about?
5) what would you say the best bit of being at Lampeter is?
6) Any new people wanting to do Ancient History?

I am visiting later this month, i'm juts very keen to find out about it all.
Hey, I'm not a present student however I went to the university in March and can help you out with some answers. I've numbered them according to how you've listed them.

2)There is a student bar on campus, and I believe there's at least one nearby pub, maybe more. The student bar is cashless, so if you go to it you'll need to take your bank card to buy drinks.
3)I haven't found a freshers group chat on facebook, despite multiple searches.
4)There's clubs for pretty much everything. There's clubs ranging from drama, historical reenactments all the way to a toast club.
6)I'm not doing Ancient History, I'm doing Creative Writing.

1) what is the social aspect like just in general night and day. The campus at Lampeter is very open, with open green space with accommodation both on site and in the surrounding area. During the day the starbucks cafe and outdoor benches allow you to socialise with others in a comfy space and if you wonder into the town there are numerous comfy cafes-- one you should definitely check out is Contis cafe. During the night the students union is great and if you're looking for more fun then there are 3 or 4 pubs in the town which are friendly, spacious and offer drinks at a low price. Sadly the only club in Lampeter, The Quarry, shut down around 5 years ago-- but there is talk of it soon reopening - pray!
2) very stupid question, but is there a student bar or anything? I'm currently at Ambleside and there is no real Union presence hence why i ask.Yes, there is a students union right in the heart of the campus.
3) Is there a freshers group chat kicking about on FB or anything? https://www.facebook.com/groups/661567643991941/ this group has a strong discussion and is full of students which would answer more of your Qs
4) What kind of clubs are kicking about? none, unless you take a bus to Aberystwyth, which is 40 mins away
5) what would you say the best bit of being at Lampeter is? the people are friendly, it's surrounded by greenery and you're only 15 mins away from Aberaeron which is the most awesome seaside town -- check it out online
6) Any new people wanting to do Ancient History? --

Coming from a current student
1) the social aspect is ok during the day, since the people are pretty friendly and yyou'll likely make friends among your flatmates. nighttime not so much, the SU isn't always open, and is sometimes pretty dead, and the pubs in town vary from the half decent, to the dirt cheap (The Ivy Bush) to the definitel avoid (The Kings Head)
2) there is a student bar - dont get too excited, they often run out of booze, and the range, both in alcohol and soft drinks is pitiful. IE they once ran out of everything but cherry sours and orange juice)
3) Don't know if there is one yet, last year when i started, it popped up around july
4) There's a lot of reenactment groups (Normannis, Vikings, Battle Soc, Larp) theres a pagan group, singing soc, theatre soc, but it changes from year to year. Fresher's fair will tell you everything you need to know. sportswise there's a lot of male groups, but only a Women's rugby group. Most of the sports socs are very social, and will form a fair amount of your social life if you join, so do so
5) The Best Bit of Lampeter? Hard one. its green, there's wide open spaces. nothing ever happens, the lecturers are dedicated and very able. One of your lecturers will be Errietta Bissa who is Lampeter in human form ( i will let you find out why yourself. She has a fan club on facebook! other lecturers are a little bit insane, especially the archaeologists.
6) I'm sure there will be, its a pretty common choice.

I will leave you with two bits of advice, one avoid one person of campus if you are easily annoyed, i won't give names, but she's the leader of 'the god squad'. she is so obnoxious it hurts. two, if at some point you feel crappy when you're here - come find an older student, we'll help you through it. find me if you want, and i'll pay it forward from when i was going throuh the same.
