The Cambridge course is the best general engineering course but it is very competitive.

It depends on what you're interested in really. If you like Chemistry you might be interested in Chem eng etc. Maybe if you gave us a bit more info you might be better off.

There aren't that many truly general engineering courses around:

Oxford
Cambridge
Southampton
Durham
Leicester
Liverpool
Warwick
Reading
Strathcylde

Off the top of my head

Have a look here: http://www.iei.ie/Steps/Disciplines/main.htm

I applied to Cambridge (general) and then Chemical for my other 5 choices.

Thanx
I think what I interested in is Maths and Physics, and I got satisfied As results for these two subjects. Well, except general engineering I've considered about Mec eng and Electronic eng. But I dont know if these courses really suit me.
By the way, I think I'm going to apply for Cambridge as long as my study director allow me to.(sometimes he doesnt allow these pupils have reali good As results to apply Oxbridge, weird man)

Isn't it up to you where you want to apply?

noone can stop you from applying, they can discourage you. One of my friends was told not to apply, but still got his place, if he had listened to thier advice then he wouldnt be at OXBRIDGE!

It sounds like general engineering is the course for you. At universities like Cambridge, Durham, Warwick etc (the list posted earlier basically), the course works out so in your first year (and sometimes your second year too) you cover many different types of engineering, so that when you specialise later on in the course, you can make an informed decision having had a go at everything, rather than having to choose during sixth form, having had no engineering experience to base your choices on.

Thanks a lot

Mechanical engineering covers a very broad area and in many cases you can start out focused on mechanical engineering and slowly focus on a subject that suits you. Although this advices works best for only certain engineering subjects (ie chemical engineering or bio engineering might not work as well)

I would definately look at Durham, that was my second choice.
But check out Bristol Engineering Design course ( 5 year sandwhich covering all disaplins, i was not that impressesd with Cambridge).
