PAPER B not paper A

On question 6 I'm confused because they seem to be mixing imperial (tonnes) and metric (metres per second). When doing F = ma for part A the mark scheme uses 2000 as the mass. I'm assuming this is in thousandths of tonnes because the mass of the whole system is 1.25 tonnes + 0.75 tonnes = 2 tonnes = 2000 thousandths of a tonne. Could someone clarify this to me because I didn't think the imperial system used thousandths (like the metric system) and I don't know if I'm getting confused over nothing, and I don't know how I was supposed to know to use thousandths of a tonne as the unit of mass for F = ma.

I don't really understand your post but I tonne = 1000 kg -
