Ravensbourne Product Design Graduate, where are you now?

This is a question for those who are active on this site, and have completed a degree in Product Design at Ravensbourne University, where are you now? How was your experience getting a (design) job after uni, and were you discriminated against by employers because you went studied there? Also, what advice would you give to those who are studying Product Design at the uni, but have yet to graduate?

Not sure you are going to get many responses for this since it's an incredibly specific question

Probably not, but we'll see how things go for at least a day. If not, then this ends up as being another dead thread.

Hi Qup,

As CoolCavy mentioned, you are probably unlikely to get any responses from previous students who studied on this course. However, as a student representative that closely works and collaborates with the product design department as we share a space with them (I'm a third-year Design & Coding student), I can tell you what some of the people that graduated this course are doing now, as I stayed in touch with some of them.

I'm not going to mention their names for privacy reasons, but I will give you some example of what they are doing now or have done.

Some of them went on to work with design agencies that they did internships with during their studies and summer, which is highly recommended if you want to get a job straight away when you graduate. Others continued on to their masters, further specialising into the product design sphere and learning more technical elements (mostly electronics) to aid their development and employability.

One person started to work for a 3D printer startup in London, that quickly grew in the past two years and now he has a management position within the company. Some others went on to win industry based competitions while studying on the course and still collaborate with those large companies to this day. A large chunk of people who graduated do freelance work in the creative industry by doing other multi-media jobs, as the course teaches you a lot about other mediums, such as Graphic Design, CAD, Digital advertisement and management.

One famous example of a successful final major project from the design department 2 years ago was when one of the students created a portable inflatable sofa that ended up getting picked up by John Lewis and placed in their stores, as far as I'm aware.

You can view some of the current and ex-product design students work on Product Design Instagram page, to help you track some of their progress by going on their design pages from there: Here is the link.

If you are interested to find out more about the course, visit the course page or speak to some of the tutors and student ambassadors on your next visit to Ravensbourne University open day or taster event.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
