Gold DofE meal expedition advice

Hi all,

My DofE is running this summer and I've just been trying to meal prep. As it is gold I want to make sure I get food right. With Bronze (and silver partially) I got away with just eating snacky things and running on sugar most of the time but I know I can't do this for gold. Does anyone have any suggestions for meals.

I was going to do a DofE specialised pre-packaged meal and pudding for dinner because I've heard they are good so I think I have that meal nailed. I was thinking porridge and a cereal bar or something similar for breakfast but I'm really struggling for lunch. I've seen people say pita, bagels and wraps are good but what did people put in them? Also, what kind of snacks are good? I want to try and pack in as much nutrition as I can rather than running on pure sugar like I did for my other expeditions.

All help is appreciated
Pasta for meal. Almonds and Brazilian nuts for snacks. Even biscuits are good.
Same, I have my Gold expedition in August, but I really struggling for lunch ideas (we will be staying there 6 days inc. training) so I need 6 lunches, but sandwiches would go bad after a day. I am allergic to gluten to struggling as recommendations are always pasta, bagels, etc but I'm allergic to that.HELP

This is what I and other people in my group brought on my gold
Pita bread/rye bread/potato braed, in it I put like packets of tuna cos that doesn't go off. Also got sachets of that rice you can microwave, BUT you can also eat it cold. (If that really bothers you, you could always cook it up the night before and put it in a thermos).

Brought sachets of porridge and put it in my bowl and then just had to add boiling water, also got loads and loads of cereal bars for breakfast and snacking.

For dinner I got those boil in a bag camping meals, cos they're really easy. and then pepperami sausages for a abit more
Snacks- cereal bars, dried fruit, maybe some lollies. I didn't really snack all that much though.

For training- where I was staying it was a youth hostel so we could get dinner and breakfast and pay for it, but I brought some more porridge with me for breakfast and then just bought food in a local shop for dinner (ther ewas a small kitchen). This is also good for thins like sandwiches for first day, you can buy then in the town and then store them in a fridge so they'll be fresh for day one.

Some people bought pasta, but because I did an open DofE and we didn't know each other, upside of boil in a bag is you just need water so you can all share the pot.

some people brought instanat hotchocolate which can be nice at night

hope this was helpful for people

Any gluten free ideas? Ive looked online and I cant find anyone else in my situation. Dinner is sorted because I've found expedition foods that do gluten free meal pouches but lunch?

Are you vegetarian? If not, then dried stuff could be good, e.g. dried fruit or meat. I'm not certain, you'll know better than me, but rice is gluten free right?
I had some of those Uncle Ben rice packets for lunch (Cold) and they were pretty good. You couild probably get others, and I think they're gluten free?

Sorry if this wasn't helpful

Personally I think they're pretty nice cold, as long as you get a flavour you like. Yeah I think they're filling enough, they're pretty large, maybe have some dried fruit/meat with them if you're worried.

Also if you have a small thermos, as I said, you can always cook it up in the morning at breakfast or the night before and then put it in your thermos. But I think they're decent cold
Breakfast- porridge, cereal bars
Lunch-wraps/pita, squeazy jam/cheese, also you can take cheese with you, we also had cucumber with us and apples (1st day only for apple as heavy) for some nutrition, sausage also works as well on them so we did that
Dinner- pasta or rice which we had with tomato sauce (or we had flavoured rice) and would add sausage

Snacks- cereal bars, biscuits that sort of stuff
