Drama: more than just acting. Why did I chose Drama at Newman University?

5 reasons why I chose and stayed on at Newman doing drama.
1) The lecturers give full belief in you to help you discover the person you are meant to be.

2) Topics are incredible. You do productions each year and learn how drama was created in Ancient Greece to the present day for example.

3) Many opportunities outside of the degree are offered. I worked as an actor for the criminology department and went to Poland.

4) A safe space is made by staff and students.

5) Connections are built with lecturers, other students and the whole university. I stayed on and did my masters because of these connections.

I am so grateful for what the drama team have allowed me to be 🌟😊To learn about the course click here https://www.newman.ac.uk/subject-area/drama/

If you have any questions then feel free to message. Are you looking to study drama? Or another course at Newman this September? Maybe you are going through clearing?

Whatever you need we are here to help

It is good to read that you enjoyed your degree! It might be helpful for other students considering drama to know about what the degree leads to (what are you plans after you complete your Masters) and a little about what the degree covers.

@cheesecakelove Thanks for your points

Newman's drama degree can lead into the Humanities MRes masters degree. As you can specialise in Drama and be in a group with History, Theology, English students as well. My plans are to either continue my work in universities in widening participation/student recruitment, as I have also been a Student Ambassador and done Mentor roles for 4 years, or go into drama facilitation and potentially visiting lecturing work. But, many people went onto to do PGCEs and become teachers in an array of subjects. Or other people did masters elsewhere or worked in theatres.

The course itself, just focusing on the Single Honours Drama course I did, are you do a production module each year. 2nd and 3rd years go out to professional theatre venues to do it. You do a work placement in a place of your choice for 100 hours spread over the 2nd year. Other modules allow you to learn the theory of drama from its creation in Ancient Greece to now. Then, you apply drama or get to explore how drama may be applied, in lots of settings like in schools, health and wellbeing or care homes.

Newman's Drama course really offers so much
My original post had the link to the course page in it.
But, if you or anyone else reading this is interested in exploring Newman they are still in Clearing and there are open days coming up in October and November.
