Bumping and Duplicate posts

I'm puzzled by the impatience of posters who bump their posts when they don't get immediate responses, usually within an hour of posting.

Another habit is to repost an identical new posts the next day or two. Its like Groundhog day in here.

I've asked some why they do this and its because they didn't get enough responses the first time round.

I suspect they dont get massive interest because they can be trivial or samey in content compared with other threads they are cimpeting with but I expect they'd disagree.

Is this behaviour that is specific to TSR?

It doesn't happen in the other groups I follow. Perhaps these have rules against bumping and duplicate posts or stronger etiquette.

No. Duplicate posts are against the rules, you can report it if you see it.
It happens on other forums too, not specific to this site. TSR just happens to be more active than a lot of other forums so people assume that they need to post a thousand times to get a response ( which isnt true... they just lack patience ).

I wanted to report this member for posting the same message every week for the past 3 weeks but actually I could not find that it broke any of the rules in the reasons given.

You cannot bump old threads but I dont see anything from someone trotting out the same content on separate posts.

Did you link those other threads in your report(s)? Moderation can see who is behind a specific anon post but there isnt any sort of list on each account of all anon posts made. They likely just didnt see the other posts.

In the rules, under the title of 'Keep your posts relevant and constructive' it states "Do not post the same content multiple times, within either a single or multiple threads."

Hence in your example the OP can be reported.

What they really mean is they didn't like the responses they got the first time round because they came on here for misplaced sympathy and, instead of that, people gave them sensible advice that they can't be bothered to follow.

You'll spot the regulars, the ones about learning to drive or not liking college; the OP will be all cagey and give short replies like "Yh" or "I'd rather not say". Ask what they are doing to change their situation and they disappear, to resurface a few days later with the same gripes having done nothing to help themselves

Thanks. You are right. Admin dealt with it.

Perhaps the poster leaves it a week before each copy and paste in the hope that it will not be picked up.

So admin dealt with this particular instance.

But the guy has been posting the same complaint about his mums behaviour towards him and his self employed brother at least a dozen times for at least 5 months.

He just changes the subject title. The content, while not always 100% identical (but it can be) is always the same topic.

Exactly, so it's spam. Is there a question in there?
Is that why TSR was kinda dead yesterday?

No, I was grammatically correct. It was a statement so that's why a question mark wasn't employed.

This is a question - but is it spam?

That concept is more about a commercial motivation. Defined as "irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the internet, typically to a large number of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc."

Or is it someone who can't fix their personal problems, or who wants the attention, or finds repeating the posts cathartic, or who has become dependent on this forum for emotional support, or is obsessive in behaviour, or making up their posts?

That's a rhetorical question.

noun: a question asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point rather than to get an answer.

You were statiing what we already know, that someone was repeating the same story, but to what end were you posting this? If a user can't accept the sensible answers they've had on a thread, then repeatedly posting the same basic story and queries is irrelevant and comes under the 'etc' of the list of purposes.

It also takes attention away from other users and pushes their questions further down the forum where they may be missed. Like the current "am I ugly?" troll.
