NTU shyness

Hi,
I am going to Nottingham trent (BA product design)in September but I'm a quite shy person (so might struggle making friends) and do drink alcohol but only occasionally.

I was wondering if anyone can give some tips?
Thanks
1. Try joining a club or society that interests you this is a great way to meet like-minded people and make friends.

2. Don't be afraid to socialise even if you're shy, you can still have fun and enjoy yourself when meeting new people. Just take things at your own pace and don't force yourself into anything you're not comfortable with.

3. If you do drink alcohol, make sure you do so responsibly. It's easy to get carried away when you're out enjoying yourself, but it's important to know your limits.

Hi 👋

Great to hear you're starting at NTU in September 👏

Being a shy, quite or more introverted person's perfectly fine at university! Like @Ericthewriter mentioned, it's okay to do things at your own pace when you're starting at university with societies being a good way to build up your confidence whilst making new friends. Finding people who share the same interests as you is a great way to get more comfortable with being at university. As a city, Nottingham's got loads to offer for students who are looking for an alternative way to socialise outside of drinking and get involved with things at NTU. You can find out more here.

What worked for me was joining societies relating to my hobbies and interests + trying out a new sport. You'll be surprised at the number of people who feel similar to you!

I'm sure you'll settle in well at NTU and make lots of friends 😀

Best wishes,
