I’m a deer?

During January my high school held a dance, I attended and wore a little black and red dress. My guy best friend gave his opinion on it, and told me “it’s as if a deer is wearing a dress that was made for a squirrel.” What the hell does that mean?

Deer are tall and squirrels are short? Maybe they think the dress was too small, revealing, or inappropriate.
