I'm homeschooled (YR11) and looking to make friends...

I was in public school for the initial four years of secondary, but due to declining mental and physical health, I have since been homeschooled throughout year 11 and have made a slow and steady recovery. I will be going to college in September, but whilst doing my GCSEs (and finding this website in the process), I thought it would be great to have a couple of online friends. It doesn't really matter what you're into or where you come from. That isn't important to me. I just think, with all the current stresses of exams, it would ground me a little to socialise here and there. If anybody would be willing to reach out then I would be so grateful. Just getting to know someone would make all the difference, especially because there are a few months ahead until I can officially go out and meet people.

I'm doing decently thank you. I just finished a biology revision session with my tutor in preparation for tomorrow's exam. I'm feeling nervous but prepared. What have you been up to?

Is there anything I can help you with or any resources I can provide? I don't want to be a distraction or the cause of you procrastinating. I've made sure to follow you so we can talk more, even if you're busy. Do you have any socials you'd be willing to DM me? (It's okay if not or if you're uncomfortable sharing DW)

why dont you check out discord and join a few servers and meet people
hi, i self teach a-levels!!! i prefer it to public school/college. i had poor mental health too and didn’t do so well in GCSE’s and took a year off and worked in mc donalds and then went to college to study a level 2 course in health and social care. then i applied to level 3 but my mental health was bad because i was ill for a month and got so behind with assignments and it made me so overwhelmed. it also took 1hr 30 to get there and 1hr 30 back so i decided to leave and start my a levels this January and i absolutely love it! it is very stressful i will say but i want to become a nurse or psychology teacher and hopefully it’ll happen.

i’m sure you will do well!!! just focus on yourself and make sure that you’re happy 😊

Thank you for this. It makes me feel a lot less alone with the knowledge that other people end up going through the same process. I hope you are recovering well, and that your career pursuit turns out as you want it to. Personally, I want to study medicine and become a GP, so there is a lot of pressure to achieve my highest grades possible. I know for a fact that I couldn't teach myself A-levels so I will be going to college regardless, and hopefully it'll open up some avenues for me in terms of making friends and socialising in clubs. My mock grades came a long way from where I started out (in some subjects I've improved by as much as four grades) so I'm hoping that's a good indicator that I'll fly my GCSEs. Good luck on your A-levels!! You'll smash them.

Thank you so much! I would love to meet him. (: During GCSEs, it's better to face them with people than alone. When you're homeschooled. places like TSR are just the difference between feeling isolated and realising that there are many people in the same boat. I love the community here and I'm sure he will too.

Thank you so much! What subjects/exam boards are you taking? I'm also down to share any of my own resources. How did you find the English lit paper yesterday?

no worries at all!!! thank you i am getting there definitely! that’s a lovely career and it’s great that you have a career in mind. having that also motivates you more because you know what you want to be. i believe that you can get those grades  . yes going to college would be better as you get more support from face-to-face tutors which is helpful. you can also make friends and also study together which is also fun and can help you revise too when you get to your exams. do you know what a-levels you might do and have in mind? that’s awesome!!! you have improved a lot. four grades is a big difference so well done to you. awweee thank youuuu! you will smash your exams as well

Well I've already accepted my college placement on the conditions that I get a grade 6 in my required subjects and pass everything else with a five. So far I'm predicted grade 7/8/9s across majority of my subjects with the exception of Spanish, which I believe I'll be able to pass regardless if I put in the effort. I had to choose biology and chemistry for A-levels in preparation for med school, but I chose business studies as my third because it is my highest achieving subject and it gives me a back up option for future careers. I couldn't agree more with what you said on the study front. Do you have any advice, as an a-level student yourself? I also think being a nurse is a great career option. Do you have any specialities in mind, or are you taking it a step at a time?
