How do u do the cuboid one cos u can’t square root the surd it was like root 4+9 root 5 but how do u square root that, I just left it as a decimal cos the question is wrong…

I think ur cuboid one is wrong. Think it is like 3 + root20

I don’t think the cuboid works cos it was y^2= 4 root 5 plus 9 but u can’t square root that and leave it in surd form

I checked on my calc and (2+√5)² does equal 9+4√5

There is a way to sqrt without a calc:
They tell us x is of the form a + √b, therefore x² would be (a+√b)² which = 9+4√5
So expanding the rhs gives us a² + b + 2a√b
So b must be 5 and 2a = 4 hence a = 2 so we get x = 2+√5
