Good start. 48 hours IIRC. Not paid and not insured. There's also the cut in training hours to take account of.

Indeed. Things will hopefully be gradually changed. The reason MMC came along was to streamline training nationally, which should make it more efficient and have people getting to consultant quicker (though almost certainly not with the same amount of experience and skills as an old school consultant). In an ideal world, everywhere using the same application process is probably a good idea. However, in reality it was poorly thought out and screwed over a large number of people - not only those who didn't get a job but those who were randomly allocated to some far-flung bit of the country, had to take the job for fear of not getting another one and consequently screwing up their personal life and relationships.

But fingers crossed it will stop being quite so catastrophic soon...
