Funding for further Degree?

Hello SFE,

I am a mature student and have a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography, which was funded by the NHS years ago. I received a small maintenance loan from you during my studies.

I am now considering a career change and hope to go back to uni to study a full-time degree in Environmental Science or Marine Biology (probably BSc).

My questions are:
-Could I get a tuition fee loan for this?
-Would I be eligible for another maintenance loan?
-If I can't get a tuition/maintenance loan for a BSc, would doing an integrated Masters/MSc make a difference?

Thanks!
There’s no funding available for a second undergraduate degree in ES/Marine Biology. Whether as a BSc or an MSci/MBio

Both would be funded for part time study as a second degree.

Hello! Thanks for your reply!

So just to be clear, I could be eligible for tuition fee funding for any degree as a part-time student, yes?
And, as a part-time student, I'm not eligible for a maintenance loan, right?

I am a UK student living in England - would this all still apply if I went to a Scottish uni part-time?

Thanks again

Hi Chloe,

Yes, that would be an exception course if taken part time. You may be eligible for the Maintenance Loan also if it is not a distance learning course and you are studying 25% intensity or more.

Thanks, Clare
