Nash Grove Uni of Exeter

Hi. My daughter has just been offered her first year accommodation at Exeter Uni and she has been given Nash Grove which wasn’t on her list of self catering preferences. As there is very little info about it anywhere, can anyone help with any comments or andvice about it please? It seems to be a smaller, quieter hall but does anyone know to what extent? Many thanks in advance and good luck for everyone’s uni adventures this year 🙂

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear your daughter didn't get any of her accommodation preferences. I've never stayed in Nash Grove so unfortunately I don't have any information about it but I do have some insight that I'm hoping can reassure you and your daughter!

I didn't get any of my accommodation preferences either, and I was really nervous because I hadn't even heard of the accommodation I was allocated to at first. I stuck with it though and actually really enjoyed being at that accommodation for my first year! I understand it can be upsetting but she could end up really really liking her accommodation - I think most people end up enjoying wherever they were allocated because they make the most of it there.

If your daughter has Instagram she might want to follow the ExeterResLife account - they post about different accommodations. I haven't seen any for Nash Grove yet but it may be coming soon!

I hope this helps, and hopefully someone who's stayed/visited Nash Grove can give you more information.

Hi Bethan. Thx you so much for answering. She will I think make the best of it but I think she’s worried about the social aspect of this Hall and the fact that it just isn’t mentioned anywhere! There is a concern that as it seems to be designated a ‘quieter’ hall that the people living there might be largely international (lovely people I’m sure too!) and more disposed to just studying rather than socialising. Thanks again for answering 🙂
No problem at all! Some accommodations may have reputations for being loud or quiet but it all depends who's in your flat. You could be in a 'loud' accommodation but be in a flat with quieter people, or vice versa. Her flat may have quieter people but maybe there's people in flats next door that are more social. It's normal for people in nearby flats to meet up. Or on the slight chance the whole accommodation is generally quiet, she may meet people on her course or in societies staying in other accommodations and I'm sure she'd be invited over there for social gatherings.

It's hard to know what to expect before going but there's many opportunities for her to meet more social people if her flat are more on the quiet side. I hope this is some reassurance for you! She may want to join some University of Exeter 2023/2024 pages on Facebook - she can post to ask if anyone else is staying in Nash Grove, and perhaps get a nice groupchat going so she knows some people before arriving (this helps ease nerves!).

Do let me know if I can help with anything else, and all the best for her in September - I hope she has an amazing time!

Hello,
My daughter has just been offered Nash Grove too which also was not on her list of preferred self catering accommodation. We feel exactly the same and can find very little info about it. I would reiterate your questions and concerns. Any info would be much appreciated please. Thank you so much

Hello it might be worth swapping their numbers just in case they want to message each other prior to going?- moral support wise. Not sure how to private message on here though 🤔
Great idea. I haven’t used this before either. I’ll look later if it’s possible.

Just to say I have a friend who lived in Nash Grove this year and had a great time - it was a bit quieter and not as loud, but had a great time and had some really nice flatmates
The location on campus though means it is near Birks Grange Village and Holland Hall - both are quite active and so if your daughters make friends from those two they are close enough to be included in those groups
