Which computer science course to choose

Hi
I'm currently a year 1 student studying bsc computer science.

For my 2nd year I can carry on with the general computer science degree.

Or can do the following.
Bsc comp Sci with software engineering
Bsc comp Sci with ai
Bsc comp Sci with network computing

Now I'm interested in all 3, so don't know whether to carry on with the broad degree so I have flexibility in the future.

Or do a specialist one, but in the future would I be sort of restricting my self if I did for example network computing and wanted to move to cyber security for example

Thanks

You might find this odd advice, but whichever options you pick will almost certainly make zero difference to your future career options. At most grad jobs will ask for say "2:1 in any numerical/technical degree". They don't even need CS degrees, let alone care what particular modules you have done. Pick the ones you are most interested in and that you think you will do best in.

Hi @Umayrc63,

Those sound very interesting! I can't give much advice about which one would be best as it is to you at the end of the day and I study Psychology.

Do you have a careers service at your university? If so, have you spoken to them? I would also recommend speaking to a supervisor or academic advisor as well as friends who are on your course as they might mention something to consider which you might not have. Finally, I would make a list of areas you can go into/roles with each of the degrees and see if doors really do close if you choose a more specific degree compared to a more broader one, like the one you are doing now.

I hope this helped and good luck!
