Live photography

I really like the idea of live/ concert photography and want to try it out but not really sure where to start. I want to build my portfolio up first so I just needed a little bit of help with how to start it off .. any suggestions?

Local festivals and local small venues are the usual tried-and--tested ways - offer the pics to venues or acts for free or for reduced rate whilst you find your feet. My brother is an in-house tog for a couple of venues and this is what he did.
